UCSD Limited Submission Opportunities
Limited submission funding opportunities are programs for which the sponsor limits the number of proposals UC San Diego may submit. Four standing committees composed of Academic Senate-recommended senior faculty members and researchers review internal applications and make recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for Research regarding which applications should go forward as proposals to external sponsors.
Internal applications submitted in response to announcements of limited-submission funding opportunities are forwarded by ORA to the appropriate faculty review committee that ranks the applications according to merit, using the guidelines and review criteria provided by the sponsor.
For limited-submission programs that span the disciplinary expertise of two or more standing committees, review may be conducted independently or jointly by the relevant committees, with the recommendations provided to the Vice Chancellor for Research. Upon completion of the review process, each PI-applicant is notified of the outcome of the review and provided unattributed reviewer comments, if any, on his/her application.
All limited submission opportunity announcements are posted on this web site and distributed via two UCSD email lists:
The UCSD Funding List is used for distribution of funding opportunity announcements relevant primarily to investigators on the General Campus and at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

The Biomedical Limited Submissions List is used for distribution of limited-submission opportunity announcements relevant primarily to investigators engaged in biomedical and health-related research.

Each announcement lists a campus deadline for receipt of internal applications, along with specific instructions to applicants.
